In a recent Spanish
newspaper an article told of how some taxi drivers (a minority) are charging
tourist four times the normal fare. Tourist arriving in Barcelona from
Girona with Ryan air are dropped of in Passeig de Sant Joan. There the
taxi's are waiting with their green lights turned off indicating they are
out of service. When tourist approach them they take the fare but never turn
on the meter. At the end of the journey they charge what they like, so
please be careful.
On my return from the UK on
the 2nd April 2008 at Barcelona airport I was nearly caught out by the same
trick. Two cabs had their green lights turned off but were surrounded by
cabs all with their green lights on. The driver of cab registration number B
7201 MN a Mercedes with cab number 10802 motioned my wife and I to his cab
none of the other drivers did anything. When we entered the cab I notice the
meter was covered by a magazine I told the driver to uncover the meter and
it showed 13-80 euros. He then stopped the cab and reset the meter and said
it was just a mistake. If I had not been on my guard he would have charged
us 34-70 euros for a 21 euro fare so be careful from the main Barcelona
airport. The driver has now been fined. If you have a problem with a taxi
please phone +34 93 223 5151 and ask for Marc.

Please do not use a taxi
with the index B 5450
vx
or B 7201 MN the last taxi operates from the airport so please be careful.

Sight Seeing
How to get to the
Camp Nou catch the Metro linia 3 to Maria Cristina.
Take the first
exit, you are now
on the Diagonal,
there is a big store
called El Corte Ingles walk
away from the
store up the Diagonal to
the next junction.
You are now outside
the Princesa
Sofia Hotel the Camp Nou
is sign posted to the right of
the hotel.
On the Avinguda
Diagonal one of the major roads in Barcelona is a very little known park
called the Parc De Cervantes. The best time to visit
is between March and September. If you catch the Metro linia 3 and go to the Zona Universitaria leave the station do not
take the first exit continue to the second exit taking the left set of
stairs. Walk up the Diagonal crossing two roads and then a further one
hundred metres and you are at the entrance to the Parc. Well worth a visit
for the splash of colour and aroma.

Visit Martorell just 16kms
from Barcelona and see the Devils Bridge (Pont del Diable). Buy a
Zone 2, ticket and take the train. Also in Martorell is the bodegas J.
Siguenza which produces Puig Munts cava (champagne).
IF you have visited Sagrada
Familia then you must visit Montserrat which is a monastery on a mountain.
The train leaves from Plaça Espanya at thirty six
minutes past the hour ( FGC station on the opposite side too the metro). Buy
a ticket to Montserrat Aeri and you will get off the train and straight on
to the cable car up to the monastery. The view is fantastic and you will
need at least a full day to see all there is.
If it is beaches you are
looking for then just down the coast from Barcelona are Castelldefels,
Sitges and Vilanova i la Geltru in that order. It takes 45 minutes to travel
to Vilanova. Sitges is the home to some of the
worlds leading motor cycle riders.
Catalunya en Miniatura Parc
Tematic is the biggest touristic and cultural complex in miniature in the
world and the only one in Spain. Visit

Retail Therapy
A place not found
by many on their retail therapy tour is the Bulevard Rosa and next door is
Antiquaris a group of antique shops. From the Plaça Catalunya going up
the left hand side of Passeig De Gracia until the junction of Carrer
d´Aragó &
Passeig De Gracia. Just across this junction is one of three entrances to
the Bulevard Rosa and next up is the Antiguaris well worth a visit to both.

A very good time to
visit Barcelona is in July and August not just because of the weather, but because it
is the sale season . So all you people who want a brilliant holiday and also
some retail therapy then get over to Barcelona.
A new bookshop has
